María Lizeth is a Senior Associate at Consortium Legal – Nicaragua with 10 years of experience providing legal advice across multiple sectors. Her practice focuses on corporate law, local and international financing, regulatory compliance, and mergers and acquisitions, with a particular emphasis on financial and microfinance institutions.

She has coordinated due diligence processes for high-profile business acquisitions, such as IC Power, a subsidiary of Kenon Holdings, and Banco ProCredit. She has also advised financial institutions on corporate transformations and changes of legal regime.

Between 2018 and 2022, she served as in-house legal counsel at one of the region’s leading international development and microfinance organizations, providing legal support across business lines, including microfinance, insurance, health, and training.

Currently, she advises banks, financial companies, and microfinance institutions on the formalization of loans with local and foreign creditors, the adoption of regulatory compliance best practices, and the implementation of strategic financial products and services to enhance business development.

  • Participated in the structuring and implementation of a commercial alliance between ProMujer and BANPRO Grupo Promerica, enabling digitalization and financial inclusion through mobile wallet loan disbursements.
  • Advised on the acquisition of Banco ProCredit by Corporación Financiera de Inversiones (CFI), part of Grupo Pellas, in a transaction exceeding USD 20 million, including due diligence and deal structuring.
  • Advised on the acquisition of IC Power by I Squared Capital, in a transaction valued at more than USD 1.2 billion, participating in the due diligence and legal advisory process.
