Costa Rica: Project No. 21,941 to add a transition to Article 148 BIS of the labor code to move the enjoyment of the holiday to Fridays

As a way to generate economic reactivation due to the effects generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 23, 2020, Representative Roberto Thopmson proposed to the Legislative Assembly the bill in reference, which seeks to facilitate tourism by transferring the enjoyment of holidays that fall on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday to the immediate Friday before or after, so that nationals, residents and tourists can vacation at least three consecutive days with a two-night stay at the various hotels and tourism service providers.

As such, the bill suggests that:

  • The enjoyment of the holidays of July 25, August 2 and August 15, 2020, be moved to the day before
  • The holiday of September 15 and December 1, 2020, will be moved to the next Friday.
  • The holidays of April 11, May 1, July 25 and August 15, 2021, will be moved to the Friday before.
  • The holiday of September 15 and December 1, 202, will be moved to the Friday immediately following.
